GREENVILLE - The 2007 Annual Meeting of the Maine Woods Coalition was held at DKB Catering in Greenville on October 4. Members elected for three-year terms on the Steering Committee include: Tony Bartley, Mitchell Duncan, Eugene Mahar, and William Peet. Officers elected were: Anne Mitchell, Chairwoman and President; Gene Conlogue, Vice Chairman and Vice President; Reuben "Benny" Lumbra, Secretary; and Tom Roberts, Treasurer. The Maine Woods Coalition, initially organized to oppose the creation of a federal park in the Maine woods, works to promote private property rights, the forest industry, and traditional access to the Maine woods for recreation. The Maine Woods Coalition map, created for the Coalition by the James W. Sewall Company of Old Town, is a large map of northern Maine detailing areas that are development restricted by ownership status or environmental regulation, as well as potential additions to these protected areas.
