The 2005 Annual Meeting of the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council will be held on Monday December 5th from 4-7 p.m. at the Nor’easter Restaurant in Dover-Foxcroft. The topic for the evening will be a report on the findings of the Piscataquis Tourism Task Force.
In early 2005, the Piscataquis County Commissioners authorized the creation of a task force that would provide strategies to build tourism in Piscataquis County. The Piscataquis Tourism Task Force will be making its final recommendations to the County Commissioners during this meeting. PCEDC is pleased to host this exciting event and encourages residents to attend.
Please RSVP Mark Scarano at 207-564-3638 (toll-free at 800-539-0332) or via e-mail at www.pcedc.org if you plan to attend this meeting.
Plum Creek Plan
Plum Creek has not yet made its final submission to the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) for the plan for its lands around Moosehead Lake. The Coalition is talking to people about how to make this plan work best for the residents of Somerset and Piscataquis Counties and will be letting Plum Creek know which aspects of the plan are important to the local communities as they consider changes before their final submission to LURC.
Here are some examples of what Coalition Co-Chairs Jim Batey and Mark Scarano have been hearing from northern Mainers:
- Ensure that the plan will allow for scenic byways to be constructed in the area.
- Be cognizant of the need for both Somerset and Piscataquis Counties to benefit equally from any final plan.
- Consider more development along the Route 201 corridor.
- Try to find a way to include more permanent conservation guarantees in the plan.
- Clarify the plans for affordable housing and ensure that there are affordable housing opportunities in both Greenville and Jackman.
New Coalition Member
Please welcome Carol Ann Ouellette, owner of the Moose Point Tavern in Jackman. Carol Ann is also a newly elected Board member of the Kennebec Valley Tourism Council. For more information about the Moose Point Tavern you can view their web site at: www.moosepointtavern.com.
Your Chance to Suggest Changes to the Plum Creek Plan
Plum Creek continues to listen to individuals and groups throughout Maine who are suggesting changes to its plan. We have been collecting suggestions from people and your comments will be collected and presented to Plum Creek by Coalition Co-Chairs Mark Scarano and Jim Batey.
What would you like to see different in the Plan? What changes do you think would make the Plan better? What are your main concerns with the Plan, and how would you address those concerns?
